John Abraham and Anil Kapoor starrer Pagalpanti fails to raise the desired amount of laughs due to lazy writing, recycled jokes and inappropriate directions. The movie continues the disappointment that the genre of comedy has been this year joining the conveted list of Total Dhamaal and Housefull 4. You have car chases, a haunted mansion and even Asiatic lions appearing in the film. However sadly none of them makes it up for an incoherent screenplay.
Director Anees Bazmee chooses to once again make a film he is most comfortable making and sticks to the staple formula of action, comedy and full-on masala. There are a lot of characters in Pagalpanti, one sillier than the other. Anil Kapoor plays the flashy gangster with his trademark loudness. Arshad Warsi is the funny guy with witty one-liners. John Abraham exudes charm despite his goofy character. Pulkit Samrat once again plays up on his boyish charm. Ileana D'Cruz, Kriti Kharbanda and Urvashi Rautela are reduced to looking pretty and mouthing silly lines. Saurabh Shukla, Zakir Hussain and Inaamulhaq are impressive.
Pagalpanti is hands down one of the worst films of the year. So many scenes go on forever and stretch the runtime for as long as possible. The climax is laughably bad due to the amount of stupidity that takes place. I feel as if I lost some brain cells during this. In a year where Bollywood is getting films like Article 15, Gully Boy and Sonchiriya, it frustrates me to see a film like Pagalpanti remind me how bad Bollywood films can be.
Director Anees Bazmee is lacking high repeat value comedies like he gave in last decade and PagalPanti continues the same. The film starts with illogical scenes but then it really makes you laugh with solid punchlines and situations that are turned into good. The second half of the film is bit slow and barely funny yet the overall impact doesn't go too down. Additionally, the patriotic theme in the climax looks unnecessary when you are making such a mindless comedy.
"Pagalpanti" is made by the same filmmaker who had made 2 entertaining movies some time before in "No Entry" and "Welcome". However he made it a point to make sure that his script matched the title of the film in totality. The only faint spark in the movie was Arshad Warsi who is very smooth when it comes to comedy.
Pagalpanti is just stylish with no substance whatsoever. Songs are placed at random times and add nothing to the film. The characters are not interesting at the slightest. Much like Housefull 4, the female characters have nothing to do and just exist to become a love interest or eyecandy.Since there is no story, you have to depend on the jokes but a lot of the film, especially the second half, is dull. The film even tries to spread a patriotic message that feels so misplaced and forced.
1980s and 1990s movies were better edited than this crap..i made it to the intermission and then what followed was a 15 minute blurr of stupidity by which time i was forced to walk out. The last time i walked out on a movie was 'thin red line' as it was so dull..this time it was the stupidity of the story and no plot. This does not even categorize as slapstick.
Rajkishore (John Abraham) has been hit by a spot of bad luck, which rubs off on everyone he comes in contact with. Along with his friends Chandu (Arshad Warsi) and Chunky (Pulkit Samrat), Rajkishore runs up a debt when their business goes belly up. This forces the trio into the employment of the gangsters Raja (Saurabh Shukla) and Wifi (Anil Kapoor). Meanwhile, a pair of rival underlords keep trying to bump off Raja and Wifi and keep failing. To Sum things up, it lacks quality and expect visual delight from lead females of the movie.
John Abhraham and Pulkit Samrat starrer Pagalpanti is a movie of a tourist group from India who set out on a vacation to only have their trip turn into a patriotic mission.Pagalpanti continues the disappointment that the genre of comedy has been this year joining the conveted list of Total Dhamaal and Housefull 4. You have car chases, a haunted mansion and even asiatic lions making appearance in the film. However sadly none of them makes it up for the incoherent screenplay. The actors have turned to charm only superficially. Overall movie is Okay but needs some work on directions and acting.
Pagalpanti, as the self-aware title says, was never supposed to be taken seriously. It belonged, and proudly so, to that Bollywood coinage mindless comedy. A genre in itself, it is colloquially described as ‘leave your brains at home’ movies. Now these films, peddling slapstick, can be fun too. Director Anees Bazmee’s Welcome and Singh is Kinng being two such examples. They treaded lightly as they piled on silliness in droves. Big and loud, both the movies made broad comedy work once they they found their rhythm.
Director Anees Bazmee, along with his co-writers, throw in everything into the mix. From exciting car chases to high-octane destruction scenes, from African lions to an entire act involving industrial strength glue. All shot beautifully in the picturesque UK. But nothing sticks, thanks to a weak script. Towards the end, it even meanders into a patriotic subplot that seems more forced acting not as much as good was expected.
